SureSmile
One of the main concerns people often have about dental braces is the aesthetic impact of the metalwork on their smile. Especially for adults, wearing unattractive metal braces for long periods of time can be very discouraging. SureSmile offers an almost invisible aligning system that straightens teeth fast and contains no metal.
SureSmile treatment consists of a series of custom-made clear aligners. The dentist changes the aligners every couple of weeks to fit the new tooth configuration. In addition to the reduced visual impact, SureSmile aligners can be temporarily removed for important occasions – meaning that treatment duration is patient-controlled. A great number of people report complete satisfaction with both the SureSmile treatment and the stunning results.
What advantages does SureSmile offer compared to traditional braces ?
SureSmile clear aligners and traditional dental braces are two different ways to correct the alignment of your teeth. There is more than one thing to consider when choosing which method to pursue to straighten out your teeth, especially because one of these options might be the better route for you. Which will all depend on you and your teeth.
SureSmile is different from traditional dental braces in that the aligners are clear and completely removable. Discipline and responsibility is key when signing up for SureSmile because they are fully removable and easily misplaced. You can get nearly identical results from either treatment.
What does SureSmile treatment involve ?
First the dentist will need to go over an initial treatment plan before creating your custom clear aligners. Once you have a plan made you will get three-dimensional scans taken of your jaw that we do in the office. Your three-dimensional images are sent to SureSmile where they will process them and SureSmile will send back your custom clear aligners.
Once you start your aligners you are sent home with your first set of aligners in your mouth and your second set of aligners to change in two weeks. We see you back in four weeks to do a check up and continue with sending two aligners home, one in your mouth and the other to change in two weeks.
What kind of bite problems can SureSmile ?
SureSmile corrects the same dental problems as traditional metal braces; the only difference is that SureSmile clear aligners are almost invisible to the naked eye, and can be completely removed.
Here are some problems that are commonly corrected with SureSmile:
Overcrowding – This occurs when there is too little space for the teeth to align normally in the mouth. Overcrowding can cause tooth decay and increase the likelihood of gum disease.
Large gaps between teeth – This can sometimes occur because teeth are missing or because the jaw continues to grow abnormally.
Cross-bite – This common dental problem occurs when one or multiple upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth. As a consequence, uneven wear can lead to bone erosion.
Overbite – This problem occurs when the upper teeth project further than, or completely cover, the lower teeth. Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ may occur.
Underbite – This is the inverse of the overbite; the lower teeth project further than, or completely cover, the upper teeth. Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ can occur.
What are some considerations when wearing SureSmile aligners ?
SureSmile aligners are definitely something you must get use to and does take time to do so. The aligners should be worn at all times unless you're eating, drinking or cleaning them. It is important to remove them while eating and drinking to ensure food will not get trapped underneath and cause tooth decay. Brushing your teeth before putting your aligners back in will also help prevent tooth decay.
